Are You Willing to Fail

Failure is one of the greatest fears of my life, next to drowning or being trapped in an extremely tight place. Failure has never been acceptable. Going back to sports, I’ve always had to win and to be honest, I have done a decent job with it. I haven’t been a big time “winner”. You  know that guy, he wins everything and every opportunity. But for me, I hate failure. I hate it to the point that I will lose sleep, dream about my job, and over process everything to the point where I will fight and work hard not to fail.

This has been a crippling thing to me at times, and even so to the point that the fear of failure has crippled me from winning so then I end up playing it safe. I am working very hard to run with my instinct and intuition. Quite frankly, I am not satisfied to just make it through ok, but I want to run hard and be in that place that resonates with every part of my make up.

Seth Godin challenges us to fail.

I found this video in an article on Mashable. Check it out.

I love this type of stuff where it challenges me to step out and get to the core of who I am. Be a risk taker. Be innovative. Don’t take no for an answer. Fight for the best.

Side bar thought: why do these types of things always come from guys who seem to be in a secure place in life? I’m just saying… i want to see an interview with someone in the middle of it and see their perspective.

Quotable!

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. -Mark Twain

Bacterial Advertising?

You all have heard of viral marketing but what about bacterial advertising? This is a brilliant piece for the movie Contagion.

How are you thinking about your content, sharing the subject of the content, yet pressing all boundaries? Take this thinking into everything that you do for marketing, advertising, promoting, storytelling, etc.

Here is the movie’s trailer:

Think Crazy

“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” by Henry Ford

We don’t need more pleasers, we need more innovators that change history. How are you doing your part?

Where Good Ideas Come From

Innovative ideas come from somewhere, but not often where we think. I love in this video how Steven Johnson talks about the genesis of the GPS that many of you have in your cars. I say “you” simply because I haven’t gotten one yet! :)
