Ditch Resolutions

We all know resolutions are as good as the paper that they are written on. However you cave into your aspirations, I still think that resolutions are a joke. I would challenge you to ditch the resolutions and set goals. I have set some pretty lofty goals for this year and I plan to hit every single one. Right now I won’t share them publically but those closest to me will know what they are because I want them to hold me accountable.

Here is why I won’t share with you; I am going to ignore criticism. It is so easy to hear it then second guess yourself so I won’t even go there! Each of my goals will elevate my abilities professionally and push me to lead the path. It comes from Jim Collins book Built to Last, but I have set a BEHAG. (Big Harry Audacious Goal).

Raise your glass.. Here is to goals.. Not resolutions!

Oregon’s Rose Bowl Uniforms

Being down the road from Nike, Oregon has always had the best uniforms. As the Rose Bowl nears, the uniforms for Oregon have been released and their helmets look as though they were wore during the Terminator (Terminator 2 that is).

And then there was Wisconsin’s uniforms by Adidas.

NBA Forever

Like a lot of people, I carry a great deal of skepticism right now towards the NBA. From the lockout that went far too long to the trade block of Chris Paul; it has seemed to move away from a focus on the fans. This is my greatest concern for all pro sports is that they have forgotten the people who pay for the tickets, merchandise, and everything in between that keeps those leagues running. We so quickly forget the people who pay the bills and fill the seats. It often feels like those most dedicated to the cheering on of the games are often forgotten by the ones filling their bank accounts.

But, with all of my own thoughts of this subject (for all sports) aside, there is something magical about looking at the game and its history. This year, this was done with a large amount of class as we got to see what it might look like if old and new played together.

I would have loved to see an image of Jordan dunking over Lebron though! ;)

Using Your Strengths

“In the minds of great managers, consistent poor performance is not primarily a matter of weakness, stupidity, disobedience, or disrespect. It is a matter of miscasting.”

Your Bag’s Journey

Have you ever wondered where you checked bag goes after it leaves the counter at the airport? The most impressive part of this video to me isn’t the use of 6 cameras in a custom case or the possible partnership with Delta Airlines to pull off such a feat, but rather to learn who did the video.

I love going into these videos blinded by the fact that I had no idea of who created the video. It carries the flair of a 3rd party initiative that took on the task of creating a partnership with the airline. Instead..Major props to Delta for using this medium to promote their mobile app. Great job Delta Airlines!

How Is Your Company Culture?

What is your company culture like? Does your culture drive the companies direction and interaction or does something else drive it?

Look at what Tony Hsieh has to say about Zappos company culture. Do you agree or disagree? Would the same philosophy work in your company?

World Changers

I love world changers.

Those people who are not afraid to risk themselves for the greater good of humanity.

I try my best at this but fail all too often.

Today, I am proud of my eight year old daughter who raised $105 on her own so that the people from the Pokot tribe in Kenya, would have a chance to have clean drinking water.

As parents, this is one of those monumental moments that will forever stick with us and with her. I can’t wait for the day when she is old enough to go visit the people who she was able to impact. I know that she will continue to impact the world, and this is only the beginning.

If you want to join her in this, you can help with one of 12 projects too. CLICK HERE to find out more about Christmas Revolution

Why I Love My Church

There are many levels of why I love the mission of my church.

There is a focus to take a message that we fully believe in to people who would rather not go to church. So how does that happen? We look at how the Bible directs our life. We grow with others in small group settings by diving into what the Bible says. We aim to impact our community by meeting their life needs. And we haven’t said it like this but much like LifeChurch.tv in Oklahoma says.. we’ll do anything short of sin to grab the attention of people.

This song is the perfect example of how we do this on a consistent basis.

This video was played along side a video that showed movie clips of “revenge”. Why? because we were talking about revenge and how we really want to seek it at times, yet Jesus calls us to carry a different mindset.

Major Lazer

This is amazing on so many levels! Can you think of a better brother/sister combo wielding weapons and dancing?

8 Year Old Girl Providing Clean Water to Africa

You are always proud of your own kids. The moment that you realize that they are making decisions on their own, you can often feel nervous about the decisions that they are making. We have recently been extremely impressed with our kids and what they are doing. We showed them a video from our church where they are challenging people to spend a little less on ourselves this christmas and take that money to give it to those in need.

We shared this video (see it above) and they made their own decisions on where to send some of the money that would normally be spent on them. We were proud of them for their decisions, but they were not done yet. Our middle daughter set a goal to raise more money than just her Christmas money, but to pull in her friends. She has set the goal to raise $200 to give fresh, clean water to the Pokot people of Kenya.

She is collecting money from her friends who want to help, and when they do, she gives them some duct tape bracelets that she made. It is truly awesome to see people rally around her. Her teacher gave her money today and her principle said that she would be helping out too. And of course, her family is jumping on board, but I’d like to ask you all to help her get to her goal. On the right side of this blog you can see a widget that will give you the chance to give. If you can that is awesome, but if you can’t it isn’t a big deal but I always carry the mentality of “you never know unless you ask”.

Here is the widget as well!
