Have you ever heard of a professional athlete who lands a big contract and the next year their performance declines? Is it just by chance? I’ve always wondered this.
On a macro level – you find athletes who land big contracts and then the subsequent season, their performance dropped below the levels that gave them that big contract. This has actually been studied at the University of Missouri. If this is interesting to you, here is some more information: LINK
On a micro level – a team can gain a large lead in a game, yet in a short time they lose the lead. The effort that got them the lead has dwindled and they either get caught up on or even lose the game. There could be some pieces to the other team matching their ability or the other team simply lets up. I didn’t find a study on this one!
How does this relate?
You may be wondering how I tie this to my recent posts.
You are not wondering that?
Now that I said that, you may be.
So here we go…
Throughout my job search process, I have had a few interviews that show a lot of promise. Leaving each one, it is easy to feel incredibly confident and knowing that opportunity sits right around the corner.
However, you can’t rest in just those conversations. You have to keep pressing forward, not letting off the “gas pedal”. If you find yourself in this spot.. keep going!
Keep moving ahead. Keep applying to jobs. As some would say.. keep on moving on!!
This was my latest learning!!
Have a great day!!
