The title says it all.
Have you every painted from inspiration or from detailed expectation (paint by numbers)? Both can turn out ok, but one is truly inspired and it shines through.
Years ago, I was on a team that was being pushed by our leaders to be more passionate about our roles in the organization. In this situation, there were two different perspectives that I pulled from the experience.. passion is either expected or inspired.
This typically comes from the demand that you are expected to understand a link between your job and why passion mixes in.
Why is this dangerous?
Because passion, if any, is manufactured.
Anytime you force an expected passion on anyone and they don’t understand the “why”, it will not translate into anything meaningful.
Let me introduce you to a guy name Steve. He was the founder of the organization I worked for and I don’t know If I have met a more passionate leader. He would share why he started and why he pressed through over time. Honestly, he reminded me of Richard Branson.
You listen to them and the “why” is incredibly clear.
The way they share, makes you want to jump and do anything to make the organization successful. They truly inspire you and it drives passion.
How Do I Know This?
I can say this with confidence because with my teams lack of passion.. I fully own as my problem.
I have stood in front of teams and seen when I have inspired vs. expected.. and vice versa.
If your team lacks passion.. have you questioned yourself and your guiding them?
I have also been asked to have the passion of the company’s founders, which is nearly impossible. This is also to be talked about more in a later post!
Question for You
When have you seen passion translated well into employees and teams?
